OLD GLORY 2nd Edition Pre-Painted and VICTRIX Metal 28mm

Hi All
It's been a long time since my last entry on the Blog; (work keeps getting in the way of my social life). Anyhooo, I thought I'd share with you some pictures of some OLD GLORY 2ND EDITION (OG 2nd Ed) Pre-painted miniatures I recently aquired a few months back, (before my car blew up)!
Well, they aren't ALL OG, the two mounted officers are the very nice VICTRIX French Mounted Colonels. I painted the two mounted Colonels myself.
Now Old Glory (OG) have a reputation of producing figures that are either very good, or very bad. Their 2nd Edition figures though are, in my opinion very nice. I don't think they are as good as PERRY's, but for the price they are pretty good at "bulking" out your line.
I think they were sculpted by the same chap who does the very nice SASH AND SABER 28mm figures.
The Pre-painted figures also are rather good value for money, with 20 painted "center" company figures setting you back $70.00 USD, or 8 "flank" company or "Command" figures costing $33.50 USD. Now they are not painted to what I'd call SHOWCASE or MUSEUM standard, but certainly a good to very good WARGAMER's standard. Bottom line was I happy for what I paid? YES.
Will I buy more? Hmmmm,... well I hear REINFORCEMENTS BY POST may well be doing a similar deal with the OG 2nd Ed figs, so when I see what they look like I'll spend my hard earned on what ones take my fancy,...
BELOW: French 36th Line Regt with a Mounted VICTRIX Colonel.
Notice the beautiful VICTRIX Colour (flag). It's as good as any flag you'll pay a couple of dollars for and you get about 8 of them FREE with a box of VICTRIX Plastic 28mm French infantry!!!

BELOW: The Eagle bearer, drummer and Officer of the 36th Line Regt. A much better look at the VICTRIX flag in this picture.

BELOW: The Grenadier Company of the 36th Line. I did repaint the Pom Poms and wings on the Grenadiers, (as the red was to subdued for my liking).

BELOW: a closer look at the Mounted Colonel of the 36th. The photo has made the horse look a lot "whiter" than it is, and has blured / blended the shading. This miniature looks a bit nicer in the flesh than this photo actually shows, (honestly).

BELOW: The Mounted Colonel and his charges of the 27th Line! The VICTRIX metals are beautiful miniatures. I'd rate them the equal of the PERRY's, (and that's saying something)!

BELOW: the 27th and 36th Line Regiments advance!

(BELOW) Old Glory 2ndEd Pre-painted figures as viewed from behind:
I based the figures on VICTRIX 40mm square bases.

18mm Napoleonic Bavarians, Poles and Saxons

Hi All
Recently I asked my old army mate Dan Dunbar ( of GUNNER's WARGAMING fame) to paint some AB Miniatures Bavarians and Saxons for me. Here is his handy work.
The Bavarian Line Regiments are Nos. 1, 4, 7, 11 and 12. The Light Battalion is "Buttler". I also commissioned Dan to paint the Bavarian Lancer Regt. Most of the miniatures are AB Miniatures, but there are a few Fantassin Miniatures thrown into the mix for added variety, (but only amoungst the Bavarians. All are on LITKO Bases. The Flags are FREE downloads from NAP FLAGS! As you can seee the ABs and FANTASSIN miniatures mix well. As usual I got the ABs from EUREKA MINIATURES and the Fantassin Figs from SCALE CREEP. I highly recommend both suppliers. See links to their shops at left.

Below are two pictures of the Bavarian Lancers:

Below: Saxon Line Infantry Regiment "Prinz Maximillian". I get the vast majority of my painting / uniform guides from the Lienhart & Humbert Tafel site HERE.

Here is a close up of the SAXON Light Infantry, showing Dan's work to good effect.

The Polish Line Infantry Battalions seen below were purchased pre-painted from DRAGON PAINTING SERVICES via Ebay. Very nicely done. I've based them on LITKO bases.

Please feel free to leave any comments!
Cheers

Regiment Royal La Marine in 28mm

Hi All
Well here we have a picture of my now finished "Royal La Marine" French Regiment of the 7 Years War. The miniatures are the beautiful "Minden Miniatures".
You can find my comments on these cracking good miniatures HERE!
The Flags are from GMB Flags.

Unfortunatly for me I've attached the flags up-side-down!!!!
I am really annoyed with myself as the GMB FLAGS are magnificent pieces of art that deserve greater care,; (and they are not cheap).
That will teach me to not to put my glasses on!

Well, lessoned learned and I won't make that mistake again.
For what it's worth I'll post a "Step By Step" of how I attached the flags, (not using these as an example and not upside-down)!
Another error was the blue of the Regiments facing is not dark enough.
Well, they will do me, and I'm happy enough with them.
Finally, here is a picture of one of my "IMAGI-Nation" Regiments.
The Maiden Guard, with attached Artillery. The miniatures are by EUREKA MINIATURES and the flags are home-made efforts.

Next post will see me upload more pictures of my 18mm AB Napoleonics.
Either Bavarians, or Italians I think,..
Cheers for now!

More FPGA MEGA GAME '09 pictures

Hi All
Here are some more pictures of the FPGA Mega Game, (see previous post).

MEGA GAME 2009! The 1813 Dresden Campaign the FPGA way,..

Above: 1st Westphalian Hussars! Coool, I have this Regiment myself, so it was interesting to see someone else trot this regiment out.

Last Sunday was MEGA GAME '09. Organised by Mike Parker, (of Battle Field Accessories), about 20 or so Napoleonic gamers gathered at a windy Mornigton Secondary College to play a mini campaign using Sam Mustafa's (slightly modified) Fast Play Grande Armee (FPGA) rules.
The Game setup consisted two teams, (French and Allies), of about 10 player's each. The campaign was played by having several table set up in a hall at the college with each player commanding a Corp, and one player on each side acting as overall Commander In Chief, (CinC). Players comunicated by hastily scribbled notes being passed to ADC's (read Nic Robson of EUREKA MINIATURES) who would carry the note to the appropriate fellow Marshal / General or CinC.Players and their Corps would attempt to move from table to table during "STRATIGIC MOVE PHASES". I say attempt, because a die roll was required to leave a table.
Also, enemy Corps might also end up on a table with you, resulting in a battle.
To add to the Fog Of War, each play was also given a "Blind", (or Blank) Card to move around also.
I won't go into too much detail about the Game, but in a nut shell, The French held the main objective, (Dresden) with St Cyr's Corp. This drew in most of the Allied, (Austrian's Russians and Prussians). The French then tried to get as many of their corps their in an attempt to crush the enemy in detail. It was a close run thing, with St Cyr holding out all day and two French Corps and the Imperial Guard arriving just in time to give the Austrians and Russians a real "roughing up".
The final result was a Victory to the French, but with the allies fit enough to fight another day. A lot like to actual Historical battle really!
Enjoy the pictures.
Below: 1st Westphalian Hussars on the large FPGA Base.

Below: Marshal Mortier, (played by me on the day); BRAVO!

Below: My first action of the day. As I tried to move my Imperial Guard Corp from one table (Maize), to Dresden, a small Korp from the Austrian camp decided they were feeling "well hard". They put up a good fight, with both Corps losing a Brigade, but the Austrians were driven off, and the Guard continued on the the relief of Dresden, force marching part of the way to arrive just in time.

Below:The initial deployments around Dresden. St Cyr's Corp on the left and the Austrian Korp on the right.Between the Walled fields and Dresden you can see the two Italian Brigades who performed heroics by driving in the Austrian center when it looked as the Austrians would sweep away all before them.
Below: The Austrian Korp Commander urges his men on with screams of "Vowarts"! (that's "Forward" in english).

Above: The enthusiastic French and Italian defenders of the walled fields on St Cyr's left prepare to defend their real estate.
Below: The City of Dresden's Garrison have taken some hits, but refuse to budge. Today they must be stubborn!

Above: The Austrians attack and secure the walled fields on St Cyr's left flank

Above: The Austrians drive in St Cyr's left flank and occupy the walled fields, but in the center two Italian Brigades have driven back the enemy with cry's of "Vive Le Emperor" and "Spagetti For Everyone"!!!

Above: Napoleon arrives just around the same time as his Imperial Guard; "Hmmmm,.. If Marshal St Cyr can hold on a little longer we'll yet have victory"

Above: The Russians arrive on the scene. In the distance we can see Dresden. The garrison still holding on.

Below:The Imperial guard and another French Corp arrives!
The Russian Guard Cavalry Korp arrived and launched themselves at the Imperial Guard. The Middle Guard occupies the small town in the center of the far right table, (it's just in picture on the far right of this photo), as the Old Guard moves up to the right, (out of picture unfortunatly).

The honours were shared as the Russian Heavy Cavalry crashed into the Young Guard; with two Russian Cavalry Brigades quicky destroyed, but with the Russian Guard Cavilliers riding "rough shod" over TWO Young Guard Infanrty Brigades, (you can see the dashing distructive Russian horsemen standing where a YG BDE use to be on the half right flank). The Old Guard Grenadiers and Chasseurs however made short work of three Brigades of Russian Cavalry that destroyed themselves on the solid walls of the OG squares.
Dresden is saved!
All miniatures and terrain belong to Mike and friend.
Cheers

French Light Infantry By AB MINIATURES

(ABOVE: A French Marshal watches anxiuosly as the Lights advance)
Hi All
Here are some more pictures of my AB MINIATURES French Army of 1812.
Almost all were painted by Model Citezen Miniatures and based by me.
There are a few mounted officers based with the Soldiers that were painted by me.
The bases are slightly deeper and wider than I normaly do when basing for AGE OF EAGLES, but only just. I figured the Light Infantry would probably take up a little bit more terrain than their brothers in the line Regiments.

There are 4 Regiments here. I've yet to attach Flags to the Eagles. I might not bother,...

The last two pictures were taken with the flash on. Consequently the "Blue" of the uniforms is a little brighter and lighter than they actually are.

As you can see, MCM does a really good job, and AB Miniatures are really the BEST 18mm Napoleonics available, (IMHO).
Well, that's all for now.
Feel free to leave a comment.
Trailape OUT!
